Pickleball Rules 2021

engage pickleball sponsored players

The 2021 Pickleball Rules represent a significant change to the previous years' rules. There are some major changes. These include the removal of the "let serve" rule and the addition of drop serving. These changes will place additional pressure on servers. These changes do not affect the basic game. You should be able play the new rules no matter how new or familiar you are with pickleball.

The "let serve" rule was eliminated from pickleball. This is one of the most important changes. Some players found this distracting. It was also a source of confusion. In the past, the referee would allow a "let" if the ball hit the net, but this is no longer permitted.

While the "let", while not a permanent rule in pickleball, was eventually eliminated. The rule was removed in order not to compromise the integrity or cause conflict between players, referees, and officials.

New players may be confused by the new rules. They aren't. The rulebook will remain similar to tennis's. Serving is the only time that players can score. The server has 10 seconds to make a serve. It doesn't matter what score the ball bounced, the server has 10 seconds to serve it.

The "chainsaw" serves have been eliminated. This is another major change. This serve requires players to spin their ball with their paddle. In the past, a player could still spin the ball by using their hand. Official USA Pickleball tournaments prohibited this. Any player who spins a ball with their hand shouldn't manipulate it.

Another big change in the rulebook is the drop serve. Before the drop serve, a player who lost a ball would argue that it had been out of bounds. The "drop serve", which is different from the traditional "in the air" volley serves, does not require an upwards arc. Instead, the drop serve requires the player to touch the ball with their paddle and not drop the ball.

Some players argue that this new serve is better than the old one. Drop Serve allows the ball to fall out of the hand, so it's easier to place spin on it. This is especially helpful for beginners. It is a great method to teach a beginner how to pickleball.

Another rule that will remain in the pickleball rulebook is the no volley zone line. The receiving team must define the non-volley area. The receiving team must play if the ball touches the non-volley area.

The rules committee is currently working to improve the rules for the Olympic Games. These rules will be published as part of the official rulebook. Most of these changes will be made to the pickleball rules in the next season.
