How Polo Is Played

pickleball serve position

Polo is a game that can be played with four players. The field measures 300 yards by 200 yards. The field has two goal posts. The ball must be hit into the goalpost in order to score a points. Each team tries to score as many goals as possible. If the opponent does not score, the team wins the game.

Each member of the team receives a number. The number displayed on the kit worn by the player is the number. The players are divided into defensive and offensive players. As the game progresses the players need to strategize on how to attack and position themselves. An attacker may try to hook a defender's stick if they are moving towards the left side. To force a goal, a player can bump into an opponent.

A polo game usually starts with the umpire tossing the ball between two teams. After the ball is thrown each team will try and move the ball to the opposing side of the pitch. This is often done by passing lead passes to the attacking teams. After scoring a goal, the team switches sides.

Each player is assigned an assignment. The best defender of the team is the player in position 4. He is responsible for moving the ball between players 3 and 2. Additionally, he has to retrieve the ball from the opposition.

There are two mounted umpires in each polo match. They determine fouls, penalties and are in charge of the match. They are also responsible to keep the game safe for horses. One umpire is located in the middle of field while the other is at the sidelines.

The umpire will blow a whistle if there is an infraction. Remember that every player has a right to move along the "line for the ball". When the ball is hit, it is imperative that the player follow this line to avoid hitting another player or being bumped by the opposing team. Depending on the nature of the infraction, the penalty could be a penalty shot, a free hit, or a ride-off.

The first game was recorded in 600 B.C.E., and it was used to train cavalry. This was the beginning for a long, centuries-long development period for polo. Polo had already spread to China and India by the Middle Ages. Ferdowsi, the ancient poet, has described some of the most famous tournaments in polo history.
