Pickleball, a recreational sport, was created on Bainbridge Island in Washington. Pickle ball is similar to tennis but players use plastic balls as racquets. Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum invented the game in 1965. They wanted something new and exciting for their children, as they were tired of playing the traditional game. The three fathers started by creating a game on a badminton surface.
Pickleball became a very popular pastime in the Pacific Northwest after a while. Pickleball was popular in all 50 US states by 1990. By the end of the decade it had been made a national game. The game is played by over 4 million people every year.
Pickleball is a sport that originated in Washington. However, it has become a worldwide phenomenon and attracts players from all over the globe. In 2009, Arizona hosted the first national pickleball tournament. The sport has seen tremendous growth, with more than 4,000 clubs in the US and nearly four million people playing it. The United States Amateur Pickleball Association, (USAPA) has helped make the sport a major participant on the national stage.

Pickleball began in a fun way of entertaining the family. Three dads saw their children complaining of being bored and set up pickleball as a way to entertain them. They set up a game inside their house instead of taking the kids to a cinema or to a pool. It was not known what the rules were and there was no equipment. But as the popularity of the sport grew, the sport was recognized as its own.
1975 saw the publication of an article on the sport. The article was a major boost for the sport. The National Observer wrote about it, and it was named as "America's Newest Racquet Sport" in Tennis Magazine. Another magazine, The Other Racquet Sports, also had an article about the sport.
Later, the game spread to Olympia, Washington. Pickleball was a popular sport that could be played by both men & women. It was eventually included in the Senior Olympics. This was an important step, as it would draw hundreds of people to the sport. It was only after ten year that the sport received a lot more attention. In fact, it was the fastest-growing in the country.
Pickleball was once a simple game. However, this changed when paddle technologies were developed. Although paddles made of wood were initially used, they were not accurate. In the middle of the 1980s, composite paddles had been developed. The fiberglass used to make the paddles, with honeycomb cores.

By the end of the 1980s, it had been established that the USAPA was a legitimate organization, and the first Executive Director and President of the organization was Sid Williams. He was president from 1984 until 1998. When Williams left, Frank Candelario was chosen to replace him. Both Williams and Candelario had a long history in the sports industry.

Wind speed, humidity, precipitation, and visibility also play a role. If you exercise outdoors in inclement weather, wear layers of clothing that protect you from wind chill and rain.
